Slide shows

Q: How do I make a slide show on my blog?
A: Here is a link: http://www.slide.com/arrange?bc=0&fx=0&tt=16&sk=0&cy=bb&th=0&sc=0
If you do not have the codes for your own slide show, you need to create a slide show first, get the codes, go to dashboard on blogger.
Click on:-
1. layout/design
2. add a gadget
3. scroll down to html/Javascript
4. add to blog (paste your codes here in the large box)
5. save changes (you can drag and reposition your new gadget)
6. save

Alternately you can also create a slide-show as a post:
1. Get the codes
2. go to your post editor
3. paste the codes inside the post editor (use edit html mode)
4. publish post.

My photo disappeared!

Q: It's not the first timeexperiencing missing sentences and images every time I post my blog or edit them. Why so?
A:Use the compose mode for editing your posts. This way you will not, inadvertently, remove some html codes in error.
I mean this sign > or this <. Don't remove any or add extra ones. You seem to like using these two symbols within your text. Here are the html codes of a photo and how it should be placed on a post:
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_fylFImMOUeM/TMEI7ey7HMI/AAAAAAAAchI/fx_CfUEIvN4/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_fylFImMOUeM/TMEI7ey7HMI/AAAAAAAAchI/fx_CfUEIvN4/s400/2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

If you add or remove either one < or > symbol among that lot, it may make your photo disappear from your post!

Revert widget template to default

Q: In order to solve problems in my blog I use "Revert widget templates to default" which I find in dashboard.
But now I read that it can remove some information from the blog. What exactly can it remove ?
A: This thread has the answer from spavel:

How do I blog?

Q: How do I make a new blog?

A:Unlike other blogging platforms (word press, my space, typepad, livejournal, multiply, facebook, orkut, friendster, hi5), on Blogger, we do not call a blog, a blog. We call it a post. When you wish to make a new blog, you should click on "new post". Other wise you would be creating blog after blog and not a single post.

1. Sign on to your blog using your ID and password here: www.blogger.com
2. On your dashboard click on "new post"
3. Type inside the post editor (large box) or upload a photo
4. Publish post.

Your blogging area will be filled by your posts as you add more posts (no limit). The side bars are meant for adding gadgets: About me, archives, labels list, link list etc. Continue to add posts to your blog. One blog is usually enough for new bloggers. Please do not create too many blogs today! You certainly need to make some more new posts.

Pages? This term, as used on Blogger, refers to static pages which appear as tabs under the header: Home, About me, recipes, my blog list, etc.  Static pages have only limited uses on Blogger, (max: 10)

Gadgets

Q: How do I develope my own gadgets?

I want that blog name

A: Is there any way to transfer the address of a defunct blog to my site?
A: Yes, there is but you will have to do all the detective work by yourself. No one else is willing or able to do it for you. Google definitely will not help you because a blog is forever:
http://www.google.com/support/blogger/bin/answer.py?answer=41931

Even if you manage to contact the owner and he agrees to delete his blog, the URL is still not available to you. You need to show him how to transfer ownership of the blog to you. It is not a simple process. Since he has not used his blog in years, he probably hasn't got a clue how to do a transfer properly, (even if he remembers his ID and password). If he doesn't, then you probably have to show him how to get back his forgotten data for signing on to his forgotten blog. It is not really worth all this effort.

A blog is popular not only because of its unique name. Quality and quantity of the posts are also very important considerations for attracting visitors. Blog name can be shared by many blogs; but blog address (URL) has to be unique. Be happy just sharing the blog name and start posting to your blog today. You can always change your blog address later when you think of a better URL.

Blog saved to my computer HD

Q: How do I save my blog to my computer?
A: This thread has the answer, courtesy of Aviatrix:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/blogger/thread?tid=2656cb1cb4d18c55&hl=en

Start with Settings - Basic and choose Export Blog. That saves your whole blog as an XML file, which you can then burn to a disc. It won't look like it does on line, though, it will be data you could restore to another blog.

Share my blog

Q: How do I get my blog "out there"?
A: A new blog is not immediately found by Google search. To become google-able and popular in the Blogosphere takes a lot more hard work on your part. You need first to post some more interesting stuff that many people want to read/see/listen/watch/buy... You also need to actively promote your blog:
http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=42377

Then you get the search engines involved by submitting your blog for listing:
Here are just a few:
Submit Express: http://www.submitexpress.com/submit.php
Technorati: http://technorati.com/tag/technorati
Yahoo: https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit

In the mean time, share your blog with friends and relatives.
1. Paste your URL in your emails to friends and family members, telling them to use the address bar and not the google search box. There is no need to search when you know the address. Keep on adding more posts to your blog. This tends to improve your Google ranking.
2. Update your interest list on your profile. Each word becomes a link which allows other bloggers with similar interests to find your blog and for you to find theirs. You do this by clicking on words in your own interest list on your profile e.g. fashion, cooking, golf, photography...
3. When you are reading an interesting blog, leave a comment (using your Google profile). Look at that blogger's list of blogs that he follows (on his profile). Leave genuine and sincere comments on those blogs as well. Leaving comments like this will attract more readers to your own blog (via your Google profile).
4. Create a hover bubble showing your URL on this help forum, read by millions of bloggers worldwide. I have a bubble. You need one too.
This link shows you how to make your own bubble:

This blog has over 50,000 followers:

Text between photos

Q: How do I post a picture, then text, then picture, etc.?
A: First, you need to learn to recognize the codes for a photo. Each one is represented by a few lines of codes like these:

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJVZ93kge11qfpm0OaimfQmWF5TG-n5Z75cKkIEzt4722B2pxZvd14RLxpQcfrMGFL8BiCMa3Xgi7v8hm7IWmyp_aPLykKHMKU63-GHcxJjDrKqVDKwvQNo1BLX4YFoozSj3zZVbX5gc8/s1600/flower+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJVZ93kge11qfpm0OaimfQmWF5TG-n5Z75cKkIEzt4722B2pxZvd14RLxpQcfrMGFL8BiCMa3Xgi7v8hm7IWmyp_aPLykKHMKU63-GHcxJjDrKqVDKwvQNo1BLX4YFoozSj3zZVbX5gc8/s400/flower+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
Go to your post editor, post all your photos. Edit post, click on "edit HTML" (next to compose). You will now see all your photos in codes like above. Place your cursor after the last >, Hit enter key once.
Type your caption or other text.
(preview by pressing compose)
Repeat the same for typing text under the 2, 3, 4th photos.
Publish post.
